Amigo loans used to be called FLM Loans, so some of these reviews say FLM Loans, but don't worry, they are all about the same company

After struggling to pay for (even more) expensive payday loans, i applied to a number of companies for help. I was offered a loan with Amigo (at the time called FLM loans) independently, but because i had also applied to a broker as well, i had a broker fee of £350 added. Pretty poor if you ask me. As soon as i hit the year mark i received constant offers to increase my loan to £5000, and recently i decided to accept. After applying, my guarantor had to phone them repeatedly in order to proceed with the application and despite being told she would be called back, she rarely was. I had used the same guarantor as i had for the initial payout of £3500, but despite my personal circumstances being drastically improved from the original application and my guarantors circumstances barely changing, i was refused the increase as Amigo claimed my guarantor could not afford the £10 increase in my monthly repayment! I understand that they have a generic system for calculating the risk of customers and their guarantors, but as an existing customer (who has proven his ability to pay for over 1 year) I find it completely absurd that they can claim that a £10 increase, for myself or my guarantor, both in full time employment, is unaffordable...Given the cost and the service you get, i wouldn't bother with this company, unless you are absolutely and completely desperate.

Extremely painful application process - despite no mention of it while they hound you to take out a loan, beware they go through your income and expenditure (and that of your guarantor!) with a fine tooth comb. They will already have every little detail of existing contracts (even bogus ones mentioned on a credit file which I am now aware of). There is no sensitivity, empathy etc by their 'customer care' team so be prepared for a degrading experience! They are cold, robotic and want their c49% interest regardless of who they step on in the process. I can see no justification of Amigo hounding the guarantor just because a payment is behind one or two days. In my case, I had emailed them immediately (no response) and then when my whole family ended up getting involved as a result of them hounding my guarantor, I followed up again. They contacted my guarantor on the same day the payment did not go through. I have still not received a reply from the company and neither have I had a phone call from Amigo to discuss anything. I am now left with a rift in the family. A general lack of making calls on their part suggests they are cutting costs on this? - Not acceptable when you are charging c49% apr. They even send a text to your guarantor asking him/her to call them for a half hour call! The cheek. You are affecting close relationships, unnecessarily, and I think your customer service is quite frankly dispicable. To anyone considering Amigo loans, they are robotic, greedy pikeys who do not care about you as an individual or ruining the relationship you have with your guarantor. I urge you to look elsewhere.

Hi,I'm Scott and I work at Amigo.I noticed a very similar review on the Review Centre website which I think you might have posted there too? I've replied to you there but thought I'd reply here too just in case you don't see that one. I wanted to address some of the concerns you've raised in your review. In regards to our application process, we do accept that we pay close attention to income and expenditure for all borrowers and guarantors, it's part of our commitment to being a responsible lender. Unlike most lenders, that make a decision simply based on your credit score, we choose to have a conversation with you to make sure that you, your guarantor and Amigo are all happy that the loan won't put anyone under financial strain. It's like the old days, before credit scores took over and you had to go and have a conversation with your bank manager before you could get a loan. During the telephone interviews with you and your guarantor, before we paid out your loan, we agreed that we will inform you both in the event that a payment is late. This is important as it gives you a chance to catch up with the payment and lets the guarantor know that there may be a problem. When a payment is late, we will usually contact you by text message and email, for the first day or two. This is because we think that it gives people a chance to catch up with the payment before we need to call them, to discuss the problem in more detail. I apologise if you have emailed us and not received a reply. I'd appreciate it if you could send your contact details to help@amigoloans.co.uk so that we can look into this for you. We aim to respond to all emails as quickly as possible, so I'd like to investigate this and find out what happened. If you'd like us to contact you to discuss any of the issues that you've raised, just let me know in your email.Thank you,Scott @ Amigo Loans

Hi, i would like to make everybody aware of this company. They are VERY non negotiable and will take any means, including court action to recover the smallest of sums if the payment plan cannot be met, they will not even allow a slightly reduced repayment plan! They have broken apart a debt management plan of mine when 7 other creditors found it absolutely fine!BE WARNED, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!!Please learn from my mistakes :(

I have recently taken borrowing through Amigo Loans and have to say that I found the service very friendly and efficient.Sure, they're expensive, but that cannot be a complaint as as if I had the option of something cheaper I wouldn't have found myself with Amigo in the first place.

Sticky divorce = bad credit. Into 5th year with then called FLM. Customer service is their strength and separates them from their competition. Keep the repayments up and sit back and relax. Got a problem they will listen!

I have had a nightmare of a time over the last 5-6 years obtaining credit due to silly mistakes when I was younger and a bad expirance with a mobile phone provider, destroying my credit file. During this time I've had to get help from my parents when it come to financial matters. I.e. getting a mobile phone contract or a loan. ( parents taking the contracts out in there name and me paying the bills )When I first heard of amigo loans I did not think that it would be legitimate, and that it would probably be another marketing ploy to get people to apply for loans. Only to be rejected due to credit file history. ( Whitch has happened to me on many an occasion ). I then seen some reviews on this site after contacting amigo and starting there online application saying that amigo were like all the other company's and did not give out loans. And I feared the worst. Nothing could be further from the truth. My garantor and myself were contacted immediately after clicking the send button of the application, by txt. The text informed me that they would get in touch within 24 hours. The next day at about 15:30 ( 20 hours after I completed the application ) I received a phone call from a very friendly and helpful member of amigo's customer service team. She asked me questions about my income and expenditure to make sure I could afford the repayments. Once completed she went through the same process with my garantor to make sure that my guarantor could afford the repayment in the event I did not honor the agreement. All was completed in about 30mins and 30mins after that the funds were avalible in my guarantors account. They do check your credit file and that of your guarantors. They do this for the same reason they ask about income outgoings. ( to make sure you don't have to much financial commitments ) responsible lending ? A far better system ( in my opinion) than the banks and other lenders that let people take as much credit as they can then crucify you when you can't afford to pay it all back. All in all a fantastic company to deal with I'm only sorry I did not know about them sooner. As my credit file would be fine by now. Top marks to the founders of this company. And many thanksKevin.

they say you dont credit check its a lie.if you get a guarentor that has his own house and a job,but no credit score because he pays cash for everything you still cant get a loan. even though its obvious they can pay for stuff.i call this false advertising.

I appreciate that the interest rate is a bit on the high side, but nevertheless that's my problem for having a bad credit rating. From the minute I contacted Amigo, to receiving the text my loan had been released, I have to say they were fab. Each and every representative I spoke to, emailed or text were lovely. So helpful and really nice. Wayne was a star, nothing was too much trouble for him and his team they were ace. My guarantor even commented to me how nice the people were and how clearly they explained everything. Really great service and they certainly pulled me out o a hole! Fabulous!

This company took all our private bank details and promised that the loan, that had been approved, would be paid into our bank account the next day, only to find that it had not. Apparently, there were a couple of discrepancies that stopped them from paying this loan to us. I wonder whether or not they are actually doing credit checks on applicants, after stating that they would not. They are advertising on daytime television and making it sound so easy. Our guarantor has given out all personal bank details also and is now highly concerned about this, as the loan has not been paid out. They do not listen to you, when you say don't telephone me at work. My partner has had constant telephone calls from them and is not allowed to use his phone at work. They have built our hopes up by approving the Guarantor and loan application and for some reason, at the seventh hour, they have pulled out and will not even tell us why, during the telephone call giving us the bad new. What gets me is that they approved the loan and twice we have had someone say that the loan will be paid into the Guarantor's account the next day but to no avail. They have left us three days wondering what the hell is going on and this was after we sorted out a direct debit day with them and gave all our personal bank account details. I wonder if they are genuine and if they should be advertising on day time television. Right now, we are getting increasingly concerned about what may be taken out of our bank accounts. Be wary and don't even trust the small print, as it is like being dropped like a ton of bricks. So glad that the loan wasn't paid out now, after reading other reviews. We would have kept up the payments (of course) but this company does not seem as genuine as they make out, in my opinion.

We took a loan with Amigo when they were know as FLM. Immediately, when applying, you are made aware that you need a gurantor. With a not-so-great credit history, other financial institutions wouldn't touch us. My partners mum offered to guarantee for us, was contacted the next day by Amigo and the loan was paid out within the week. At all stages they kept us up to date with the process, from initial enquiry to the moment of payout to confirmation that the funds had left their bank. Low and behold, the money was in the bank within 3 days, just as they had said. People can moan about the interest all they want, the fact is, bank charge you interest up front, Amigo charge you daily. So, if you pay extra one month, the amount that you paid extra would reduce a days interest. We started off paying around £88 pounds interest per month in 2009 on a £3000 loan. Now, with only a few payments remaining, our interest is dropping by at least £2s per month (currently stood at £24 for the month of November according to our online statement). You can also do everything online, from changing bank details, telerphone numbers, payment dates (which, unlike some banks, Amigo do not charge you for the the privilege) and after a while, applying for a top up. We have paid for 43 months and was made eligible for a £5000 top up some time ago due to a good payment history. If needed, we would take without a doubt. If you do have to deal by phone, (started a new job, wages date changed, direct debit bounced) they show great empathy and listen to what you're saying. Would highly recommend.

No matter how desperate for money you are AVOID THIS COMPANY at all costs.
Firstly, the company was originally FLM Loans when I borrowed from them, using my brother as a guarantor. Although they clearly explained the exceptionally high APR clearly, they did not tell me how they find other ways to apply charges.
Every month has been a nightmare!!!! I paid £1000 towards my loan in a bid to pay it back early and reduce the massive APR. However. After s few months my guarantor started to get calls saying I wasnt paying the loan! Upon investigation, Amigo had used my large payment as advanced monthly payments - so when this ran out they contacted me! The result, I still gave the huge APR over three years.
Since this incident, they have "updated" my direct debit details several times, yet still dont always take the payment and contact my guarantor. In fact, on one occasion (though they had been paid), they sent a letter to my guarantor stating that I had not paid the loan (letters that are dated after the loan has been paid)!
No matter when you call them, they are unhelpful - they refuse to give you a full Jane it call reference number. Thus, you cannot refer to any contact you have with them, which, conveniently for them means they can deny it happened - eg:
Amigo: "We did not send you a letter after you made a payment"
Me: "yes you did, I have it in my hands"
Amigo: "why would we do that. It makes no sense. We definitely didn't send you a letter"
Me: "OK, can't deal with you anymore, can I have your name or a call reference, please"?
Amigo: "*stated only first name* thats all you need"
Me: "no I need a reference number to identify that this particular call as your staff do not leave notes on the account and I'm tired of it"
Amigo: "that's all you need"
THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE DEALING WITH
I would love someone who has written a "good" review to contact ne as I only know one other person who deals with Amigo, and surprise surprise, he's got similar problems!!
SERIOUSLY, DO NOT TAKE A LOAN WITH THIS COMPANY - BE WARNED!!!!

after applying for several other companies which turned out to be time wasters wanting cash up front ect, i applied at amigo, family member happy to stand as security, £4000 loan paid out within days and you can keep track of your account on-line, hope to repay within 6 months rather than the two year term which will save me interest. i plan to use again to complete my home improvements as i know i am good for the repayments, interest only high if you take it for full term and if your like me with a less than great credit history then you cant argue just be glad someone is there to help. so far no problems with them and if you have any questions they always answer them. excellent service.
Just remember these companies are in business to make money so all those moaners who complain about high interest and calls when you fail to pay THATS YOUR FAULT NOT THE COMPANIES!!!

Would recommend them to a friend or family member. I liked the fact they dealt with me as an individual and spoke politely about my guarentor. I also liked the fact that I could sign up on-line.

Be very carful if you are considering becoming a gaurantor. I foolishly became one for someone I THOUGHT I could trust. Believe me I couldnt have been more wrong. Amigo send me a text every time the lendor doesnt pay and another text the following day so say it has been taken from my bank account. I did contact Amigo after paying seven monthly payments but they didnt seem interested. The gaurantor is the easy way for them to get paid without chasing the real borrower. This review will probably get removed by Amigo for being negative but a quick look on the Money Saving Expert forum reveals all.

When desperation called me, I called Amigo Loans (or FLM as it was then). I was actually on holiday when it all went through and, apart from a couple of hiccups on my part, it has been smooth sailing for nearly two years. Unfortunately, (and thankfully in a smaller way!),desperation called again recently. Lo and behold, within a week, it has all been sorted out. Again unfortunately, I have been having problems with my internet services, but Amigo Loans were extraordinarily helpful by phone and text. What's not to like? Well, you may not like the interest rate but, compared to some of the payday loans which are advertised, Amigo Loans interest rates are over 75% lower and very fair - and it counts towards an eventually good credit rating.

i took a £3000 loan with these people i have never missed a payment and only owe them £93 and my guarantor was my mum whos credit has not changed in one bit yet when i applied for a topup loan they told me i had to find a new guarantor as they done a credit check and they did not pass yet when ask how they can still be used as a guarantor for the current loan they just kept repeating that they failed to meet their standards .SO I will be GLAD to be rid of these unhelpful people oh and on a £3000 loan the intrest was around £2000 costing around £5000 in total, yet on a £5000 over the same period of time costs well over £12000 to pay back complete rip off stay well clear.

I'm serving as a guarantor for my nephew to build up some credit since he is young and at University, which I am happy to do. But the tactics that 'Amigo' have used to complete the application and now to collect on the funds has been ridiculous. I'm just going to pay the thing off and be done with it and get him to build his credit elsewhere. Pushy salespeople to 'up-sell' an amount he didn't need, added fees, and rude collectors (and he only missed one payment). So sorry I told him to give it a try. I have been officially robbed at the border by bandits.

i've had constant texts, emails and now a letter telling me i can borrow £5000. i didn't apply to this company but another one. to borrow £5000 i'd have to pay back £11859!! £6859 MORE than i actually borrow! it also states in the letter, a garantor has to own their own home but this is an unsecured loan. 'we just need to know the garantor trusts you.' a garantor is the one RESPONSIBLE for paying back anything YOU don't pay! this is stated in tiny print on the back.
i'm complaining about this comapany and definitely will not be borrowing from them!

F.L.M are a good loan company, BUT , Now please think on this very hard . A so called friend, or relation comes and asks you to be guarantor for them , the reason they need a guarantor is because they have crap credit history. no credit history. they have defaulted . court orders against them etc etc. .If you do help these so called friends, relations, and they stop paying. Remember YOU ARE THE ONE THAT SIGNED THE AGREEMENT TO PAY F.L.M. NOT YOUR MATE OR RELATION. Just go back to the agreement for a moment, F.L.M. require the guarantor to be a home owner!
hello! has your light come on yet ????. So your so-called mate , relation stops paying the monthly instalments and does a bunk to south America, and you at the time cant afford to pay, F.L.M don't care if you have lost your head my friend. they will legally get there money eventually, one way or another. The above is in no way intended to criticise the way F.L.M do business. in fact they are very a very good firm to deal with.
But remember. You play ball with them, they play ball with you , But please remember that it is their ball that is being played with. So please please "think". signed without prejudice Eddy the sucker. root of all EVIL ,the money demon

I needed a loan for a new car although being only 18 (with poor credit history) I struggled to find a loan company who would lend me the £3000 I needed. However, FLM lend to anybody who is able to offer a suitable guarantor (which I had). They kept in contact with me throughout the application process and the £3000 was paid in my account an hour after approval. The company is honest and proffesional. If a payment is missed they will take the money from your guarantors account on the same day. Great service, just dont miss any payments as they are unwilling to accept any late payments which is fair enough.

THE REASON WHY MOST PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THESE KIND OF COMPANIES IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE DEFAULTED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. THEY SHOULD ALL READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE DOING. MOST PEOPLE USING THE FACILLITIES FROM FLM HAVE DEFAULTED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER IN THE PAST SO BE CAREFULL IF YOU ARE A GUARANTOR AS THEY MAY JUST DO IT AGAIN.....
WE TOOK A £3000.00 LOAN OUT OVER 1 YEAR TO HELP US HROUGH A ROUGH PATCH, IT WAS EASY, WE KEPT UP THE PAYMENTS, THEY DID NOT BOTHER US AND KEPT US UP TO DATE WITH STATEMENTS. THEY OFFERED A FURTHER LOAN WHICH WE REFUSED. THE END.

omg the non stop hassel from this company. We were referred through U switch and were told a company were willing to give us a 3,000 loan but i could wait to be transferred as i needed to pick my daughter up. "The paperwork come through the next day and the apr was 58%. I didnt know why we had been referred to this company as out credit reating is good and we own a house etc. Needless to say we didnt agree to anything as we were totally in shock at how someone could charge anyone 58% apr its criminal.
Anyway we have managed to get a loan with Lloyds bank, but i am continually been text by the company even though i have emailed and text STOP to their messages.
Well thats my experience and i wouldnt use them unless you are desperate

WE Paid off our account in october and although they have been sent bank statements etc several times since, they are still taking money every month. They have also waited EVERY MONTH to add the late payment charge before they have taken the money. I am bothered by them non stop, particularly annoying on sundays, throghout the day, from 9 til 6. I am sick off them and cant recomend them to anyone, however if you do decide to go with them, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP COPIES OF ALL BANK STATEMENTS AND LETTERS!!!!!!

Flm have covered a gap in the market. if like me your credit is not the best it can be, this company could help. it's based around someone standing for you as a guarantor. if you google FLM like i did you do get a lot of people Moaning about how bad FLM can be, this is only down to them missing payments and quite frankly if someone missed a payment that they owd you, you would be ringing them and nagging for payment.
Guarantors: please understand What This Entails, your standing for the person so if they miss a payment FLM will chase you for it instead. simple! and as much as some review wine about it, YOU signed the Paperwork to say YOU Would agree to PAYOUT if the loan defaults. So again Guarantors its your choice to back your son's new six month girlfriend, but please thing long term.
my father inlaw back my loan, he's known me for 5 years and im married with children in a stable relationship. Being a Guarantor is a BIG Thing not to take lightly Hence FLM check 3 times with you ARE YOU SURE!
The loan its self is not to bad if paid back as quick as possible, with an avg 42% apr dont get on 5 years you might as well open your wallet and burn cash in your face.

Don't get sucked in by this company. I stood as guarantor for my son's partner and all seemed well.......til she stopped paying. Then we got the usual phone calls etc from FLM. Nice enough at first but after the first few calls that changed markedly. I tried explaining my personal situation (wife ill, no work) but there was no leeway. Now I find out they've debited my bank account for 2 payments. One yesterday, and another one today. Unless you have a crystal ball and can see your future is rosy, DON'T sign as a guarantor.

This company told me there was no arrangement fee but when i had my first statement through the post they added on an extra £330 onto my account for arrangement !!! Do not go on what their loan calculator says i had a loan of £3000 and i am having to repay nearly £6000 with interest !! no wonder this company dont bother with credit checks they would give a loan too anybody !!! The payout rate is very fast i must agree maybe so they can charge silly interest the quicker the better !!!

I got a loan with this company and asked for my direct debit to be moved from the 1st to the 5th. They said this would be okay however from the 1st to the 5th they sent my garantour loads of messages. Very unprofessional and poor service.
I would never do this again and am seeking a new loan with less intrest to pay this off

The loan application process was very simple and easy to follow. I dealt with Kelly Thirsk on the phone and via email. Pleasant and polite even while putting up with me! :-)

Josh Revill has made my application such a fantastic experience! He is extremely polite and helpful and always gets back to you as quick as he can. He understands your frustrations but he always has his requirements to deal with. which i must say he does fantastically. He keeps you well informed and up to date with what is happening and he has made my life a million times easier! I must give him full credit for being able to deal with my guarantor! She is not the easiest woman to understand or to get to understand what your on about but he did with huge success! Thanks Josh!!! Lets hope the repayment side of things go as smoothly!

The loan application was easy and could mostly be done online which is nice. Not got good credit but they made it seem okay & Daniel Excell my account manager was very welcoming. I like the fact that they can keep me up to date with the progress via text message. Even though it took a day or so longer than expected they still apologised and made sure I knew what was going on. Very happy.

What a great company. If you have a poor credit history it can be easy get enticed in by apparent quick fixes and emails promising you the world .. but what a let down it is when you look into it further...
FLM are different , transparent , clear , and a genuine company who want to help genuine people repair there credit history. There is no quick fix , but with companies like FML who spell it out and make it fair and clear , there is hope ;~)
Thanks FML

Amigo loans offer guarantor loans to people who have been turned down elsewhere. A guarantor loan is where you can borrow money even if you have a bad credit score, as long as you have a friend or family member who is willing to stand as guarantor. Your guarantor will need to be older than 18 and younger than 75 years of age. They will need to have a good credit history and they will need to have enough money to make repayments on the loan if for some reason you can’t pay.
You can apply for an Amigo loan online at www.amigoloans.co.uk. The entire application process is on their web site and takes no more than 5 minutes. You will need to enter your loan requirements, contact and financial details and you will need to agree to the terms of the loan.
The Amigo Loans web site is secure and your personal information will be safe with them.
